About this site

This is a small independent guide to one square in Bologna and the things within a short walk of it. It is written and maintained by one person, independently.

It is not run by the city, by any of the buildings on the square, or by a tour operator. Nobody pays to appear on it.

How we decide what goes on the site

Every page starts from primary sources: the building’s official site, the city’s museum listings, and the Italian and English record where it exists. Where something is repeated everywhere but we cannot find a source for it, we say so on the page rather than passing it along. There is a lot of that in Bologna, and some of it is our favorite material, but folklore gets labeled as such.

Opening hours and prices carry the date we checked. Those change without warning, so we link to the official page and tell you to confirm before you go.

We only write about places we can describe usefully. If a page would be padding, it does not get published.
